Or, indeed, you may have, but your busy life tells you that Academic Writing Month is not for you... I get it. There is quite a lot of pressure which surrounds Academic Writing Month - and the more well-known NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). Personally, I dislike all the 'hype'. How many academics or PhD students are realistically going to be able to put their life on hold and dedicate a whole month to writing? Giving structure to one's day may help, however easy does it, as far as my experience goes.
ACWRIMO may just mean seizing this opportunity to reboot a good writing habit - for example finding time to fit in a writing slot every week day - we are talking about an hour or 90 minutes maximum..! Or celebrating ACWRIMO with a writing buddy, by meeting in person or online on set days of the week.
If you are looking at your calendar and are wondering - heck! It's already mid-November and I have not got going yet, don't panic! It's fine to jump on the bandwagon a bit later - ACWRIMO is like a train that has many stops, and you are welcome to jump on at any time.
Here at Chapelgarth we celebrated ACWRIMO by offering two separate writing retreats this month. We wanted to make them cosy and special, and the fire have been roaring in the common room.. we are only half way through the month but we can honestly report that everyone has been getting in the ACWRIMO ZONE here. Our November writing retreats are fully booked, but if you are looking for inspiration, do check out our upcoming writing retreat dates - we have updated our calendar to May 2025.
